Looking Back on our History

Timeline of the Habitat for Humanity of Trenton Affiliate:

1986 - The Habitat for Humanity of Trenton was founded in September.

1987 - Dedication of first home and 1st family @ 602 N. Clinton

1995 - Carpenter’s Local #31 Blitz frame Oak St. houses.  HFH of Trenton affiliate office moves to East Trenton Center.  Discussion on co-sponsoring a housing Rehabilitation program in partnership with Centre St. Steering Committee.

1996 - Comcast s presents a Valentine Check to start a corporate challenge fund raiser.  Habitat and Bourough of Princeton joined forces to create (HPA)—the 1st co-op building effort in Princeton @ 29 Lytle St.  6 corporations donate funds and volunteers for a 5 day Blitz build.

1997 - HFH of Trenton spurs planning for Neighborhood Development of N. Clinton corridor.HFH of Trenton highlighted in current issue of Habitat World. FHLB presents check to HFH of Trenton for its “East Trenton Vision 1000” program

1999 - 3rd annual Bike-a-thon attracts more than 70 riders.  Millard Fuller leads Kick-off for Habitat’s “15 Dreams & Corporate Challenge Campaign”.  Hurricane Floyd Sept. 16 floods 68 houses on Mulberry and nearby streets.

2000 - 41 Hart Ave designated as the site of the 1st Women Build project

2004 - 2 new Homebuyer education classes begin—“1st time Homebuyer” and “Managing Your Money”.  “Building Opportunities” campaign begins for construction of 15 homes in East Trenton area.

2005 - “Building on Faith” project kicks off in Nov.  HFH of Trenton hosts NJ League of Community Bankers Event @ Habitat for Humanity Day in Trenton.

2006 - Construction begins on Thrivent house as well as 2 other houses.

2009 - ETS breaks ground on new house. 52 Day Challenge by Woodside Presbyterian Church of Lower Makefield, PA to finish 4 Habitat houses in 52 days.  City of Trenton works w/ HFH of Trenton and East Trenton Collaborative to develop a greenway along the Assunpink Creek.  Learning Center Opens.

2010 - Building refurbishing begins for ReStore.  Land home dedicated. 2 homes completed.

2011 - Bloomberg partners with HFH of Trenton to build am energy star rated house.  Over 400 work camp volunteers do home repairs on over 50 homes in the area.

2012 - 1st energy star house sponsored by Bloomberg dedicated.  Board and Construction committee review Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative to include as part of HFH of Trenton’s portfolio.  Major renovations on ReStore begin for official opening.
